I’ve been criticizing Putin’s imperialism on this blog for at least four years, but I couldn’t help publishing this content, which was originally a PowerPoint slideshow. It was a part of a short lecture given at a 6-month academic English course at my university (Unicamp), when I was a doctorate student. The federal program, launched by former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, was called ‘Languages Without Borders’ (Idiomas sem Fronteiras), and its aim was to help undergraduate and graduate students improve their proficiency in languages to study and make research abroad. Like another wider program (‘Science Without Borders’), it couldn’t reach its goals and was eventually closed by President Bolsonaro.
Our teacher Luane asked us to make a presentation about a topic of our interested, and I chose the history of the Russian language. Later at the course, I make another one about the Communist Party of Brazil, but I found no use to make a post from it. She gave me a 9 for both lectures, but for me it was a great experience to practice my English to such an extent. Since I’ve kept the slideshow among my personal files, I decided to make a new post from it so that you could also know more about the language I began to learn in 2007. We must distinguish between Putin’s genocidal penchant and the broader Russian culture and people: I hope some day they can live free from the current dictatorship and in harmony with their neighboring countries.
