Je vous présente la chanson utilisée à présent comme l’Hymne national de Grèce (République hellénique): Ύμνος εις την Ελευθερίαν (Ýmnos eis tin Eleftherían), L’Hymne à la Liberté. Les paroles ont été écrites comme un poème par Dionýsios Solomós en 1823 et elles ont reçu une musique par Nikólaos Mántzaros en 1828. Elle a été adoptée comme l’hymne de la Grèce indépendante (Elláda) en 1865, et comme l’hymne de la partie grecque de l’ile de Chypre en 1966. Le poème original est beaucoup plus long (158 couplets au tout), et seulement la première partie est utilisée dans l’hymne.

Solomós (1798-1857) est né dans l’ile de Zante et s’est inspiré de la lutte pour l’indépendance que la Grèce a arrachée en 1821 à l’Empire ottoman. En 1824 le roi Georges 1er a décrété le poème comme hymne national, présenté dans sa version courte avec deux couplets. Mántzaros (1795-1873) est né dans l’ile de Corfou, en mer Ionienne, et a étudié la musique en Italie pendant plusieurs années. Seulement en 1865 l’hymne a été officialisé, avec les 24 premiers couplets du poème, bien qu’on n’en joue que les deux premiers lors d’évènements officiels.

J’ai téléchargé de cette vidéo l’audio chanté, et le morceau avec l’hymne instrumental se trouve dans cette vidéo. Montage à trois sous-titres : dans l’orthographe grecque moderne, dans la translitération la plus courante et dans la traduction en français. Lisez ci-dessous les paroles en grec dans l’orthographe moderne et dans l’orthographe “polytonique” utilisée jusqu’en 1982 (2) :

National Anthem of Greece since 1865

This is the song currently used as the national anthem of Greece (Hellenic Republic): Ύμνος εις την Ελευθερίαν (Ýmnos eis tin Eleftherían), the Hymn to Liberty or Hymn to Freedom. The lyrics were written as a poem by Dionýsios Solomós in 1823 and they received a melody by Nikólaos Mántzaros in 1828. It was adopted as the anthem of the independent Greece (“Elláda”) in 1865, and as the anthem of the Greek part of the island of Cyprus in 1966. The original poem is much longer (158 stanzas in total), and only its first part is used as the anthem.

Solomós (1798-1857) was born in the island of Zante and was inspired by the fight for independence, finnaly obtained by Greece in 1821 from the Ottoman Empire. In 1824 the king George I decreed the poem as the national anthem, displayed in its short version with two stanzas. Mántzaros (1795-1873) was born in the island of Corfu, in the Ionian Sea, and studied music in Italy for many years. Only in 1865 the anthem was officialized, with the first 24 stanzas of the poem, although only the two first ones are played in official events.

My video has three subtitles: in the modern Greek spelling, in one of the many ways of transliterating, and in English translation. Read below the lyrics in the modern Greek spelling (1) and in the “polytonic” spelling, official until 1982 (2):

Esta é a canção que serve atualmente como Hino Nacional da Grécia (República Helênica): Ύμνος εις την Ελευθερίαν (Ýmnos eis tin Eleftherían), o Hino à Liberdade. A letra foi escrita como um poema por Dionýsios Solomós em 1823 e recebeu uma melodia de Nikólaos Mántzaros em 1828. Foi adotado como hino da Grécia independente (Elláda) em 1865, e como hino da parte grega da ilha do Chipre em 1966. O poema original é muito mais comprido (158 estrofes no total), e apenas a primeira parte é usada como hino.

A letra desta tradução foi fornecida pela Embaixada da Grécia em Brasília e está reproduzida no livro Hinos de todos os países do mundo, de Tiago José Berg (Panda Books, 2012), do qual achei alguns trechos no Google Books. Eu apenas fiz alguns ajustes que deixassem o texto mais claro e moderno. Berg nasceu em Cordeirópolis, SP, em 1983, e desde pequeno ele coleciona informações sobre hinos, bandeiras e brasões de vários países do mundo. Possui graduação e mestrado em geografia pela Unesp de Rio Claro.

Segundo Tiago Berg, Solomós (1798-1857) nasceu na ilha de Zante e se inspirou na luta pela independência que a Grécia conquistou em 1821 ante o Império Otomano. Em 1824 o rei Jorge 1.º decretou o poema como hino nacional, apresentado na versão curta com duas estrofes. Mántzaros (1795-1873) nasceu na ilha de Corfu, no mar Jônico, e estudou música na Itália por vários anos. Apenas em 1865 o hino seria oficializado, nas 24 primeiras estrofes do poema, embora só as duas primeiras sejam tocadas em eventos oficiais.

Eu baixei o áudio cantado deste vídeo, e a vinheta com o hino instrumental está neste vídeo. Meu vídeo tem legendas triplas: na ortografia grega moderna, numa das muitas formas de romanizar e na tradução em português. Seguem abaixo a legendagem, as letras em grego na ortografia moderna (1) e na ortografia “politonal” que vigorou até 1982 (2), e a tradução:
